After I bought my first car, I have to admit that I never knew the importance of tire rotation. I learned my lesson the hard way when the tread of my front tires wore down very quickly, while my back tires were still in great shape. I thought that the traction of the back two would make up for the front two. I learned I was very wrong one day when I slammed on my breaks while driving in the rain. I rear-ended the vehicle in front of me. Thankfully, no one was injured. However, I learned that if I had rotated my tires regularly, I could have avoided that accident. The holidays are here! It's time for the family get-togethers. That means you'll be packing up and heading out to visit family and friends. While you're packing up your gear, don't forget to pack some supplies for unexpected emergencies. Failing to prepare for emergency situations could leave you stranded without the gear you're going to need to survive. Before you head out for your family get-togethers, here are four items you should pack in your car.
Emergency Phone
You never know when your phone is going to give out. If it breaks while you're traveling, you could be without a way to call for help in an emergency. To make sure you always have a way to call for help, carry a spare cell phone in your car. All you need is a basic pay-as-you-go cell phone that you can keep in your glove compartment. That way, you always have a phone you can use. Make sure you carry a spare charger with you as well.
Food and Water
If you break down on the side of the road, it might be a while before someone can get to you. This is particularly true if you break down in the middle of nowhere. To prevent hunger and dehydration, make sure you always carry spare food and water in your car. A good rule of thumb is to carry at least two spare bottles of water for each person in the car, plus enough snacks for a day. Not only will the snacks prevent hunger, they will also help the little ones pass the time.
Extra Blankets
Winter temperatures can be unbearable, especially if you're stuck in a car on the side of the road. If you're going to be traveling by car this winter, make sure you always have extra blankets in your car. Try to pack at least one for each person. For added warmth, try to assign a buddy system so that two people are bundled up together.
Baby Supplies
If you're traveling with a baby, make sure you pack extra baby supplies. You might have enough supplies for the trip, but that doesn't mean you'll have enough if a roadside emergency strands you for several hours. Try to pack double the amount of supplies you need for a normal trip. This will ensure that you'll be able to care for your baby until help arrives.
